Orlie Kraus,
End-of-Life Doula
& Reiki Practitioner

I am a Brooklyn, New York based end-of-life doula and Reiki practitioner. I’ve arrived at this work through the years of caring for my husband, Jon, who had ALS. I wish we had a death doula, someone to simply help guide us through this unfamiliar and chaotic time. Jon’s weekly Reiki sessions helped him with his quality of life, but most importantly, it eased his emotional and spiritual mind aiding him to find peace while facing his end of life. My wish is to share the experience and knowledge I’ve gained with others so they may have a meaningful and as peaceful a death as possible with guidance and ease of mind.

Death is not just a medical event as it is treated these days. It is a sacred and human one. It is big. The unavoidable natural process of life. Thinking about our death is a healthy practice. Embracing our mortality and accepting death as an essential part of our existence leads to meaning and opportunity for transformation that is lost if death is not acknowledged.

As an end-of-life doula I provide companionship, comfort, and guidance which includes practical, emotional, moral, and spiritual support to those facing a terminal illness or death. I like to think of us as friends in death. I will walk alongside you through this very natural process. My aim is to normalize death by having open and honest conversations. Talking about death and your end of life can actually bring a sense of ease and freedom. More love. Less fear.

The end of life is inevitable. There is no way around it. It will happen to all of us. My approach is to empower you about your choices and educate you to lessen the anxiety and fear surrounding death. Throughout, I strive to be an informed, calming and compassionate presence. My aim is to make the dying process more easeful for everyone involved.

I am here to support you with love and compassion.
