What is Reiki?
Reiki means “universal life force energy”, which flows through all living things.
A Japanese form of gentle hands-on therapy, Reiki transfers energy through the practitioner’s hands to restore balance to the body, mind, and spirit. This life force energy helps to unblock areas of stagnation, clear out negative energy, and promote physical, emotional and mental well-being, allowing for the body’s own natural healing to occur.
Mikao Usui developed Reiki in the early 1900s, deriving the term from the Japanese words rei, meaning “universal,” and ki, which refers to the vital life force energy that flows through all living things.
Sometimes we feel pain, weakness, illness, or feel emotionally unbalanced when our energy paths are blocked. Reiki manipulates and releases the intuitive energy flow in the body opening up our energy paths to allow for healing to take place.
This practice works well in conjunction with and compliments other medical or therapeutic treatments. It can increase the efficacy of other types of healing. However, it is not a substitute for one’s allopathic medical care.*
Today, Reiki is offered in hospitals recognizing its potential to enhance patient well-being and recovery. It is also being offered in areas of hospice, palliative and home care as a complementary treatment for patients, as well as care-givers.
* Reiki practitioners are not medical professionals. We do not replace your medical care, but rather offer to support your needs in conjunction with your medical team.

‘‘Reiki allows for the body’s own innate healing ability to work.’’
Reiki for End-of-Life
Reiki reduces the anxiety and fear that can be associated with a terminal diagnosis and therefore it can reduce the depression that comes with that. Reiki allows us to better handle the uncertainty of life and death. We can feel warm love and connected to those around us and to ourselves. It helps us to lift our spirits and accept things as they are, and relax into the unknown surrounded by loving compassion and caring energy guiding us gently into the transition between life and death.
Often there is a fear in letting go. Reiki helps release those attachments to this lifetime and open to spirit. It allows us to relax into the unknown surrounded by loving and caring energy and to transition with less pain and more inner peace. Reiki helps us to pass with comfort and grace.
My husband who had ALS looked forward to his weekly Reiki sessions. Not only did it help him with his physical discomfort offering him quality of life, it helped him reach a gentle, loving and peaceful space as he approached his end of life.
Reiki for Self-Care & Healing
Reiki calms and soothes the nervous system often resulting in overall relaxation, security and peace. When the body is less stressed it is able to heal itself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. People use Reiki to decrease pain, ease muscle tension, speed healing after an injury or surgery. It improves sleep, reduces the symptoms of anxiety, fatigue and stress as part of a treatment to relieve depression and to restore emotional stability.
Reiki can ease chronic pain which is often linked to anxiety, depression and other health issues. It can minimize the negative side effects of medications and medical procedures.
Reiki provides effective techniques for managing emotions and promoting emotional wellness. Life’s ups and downs can leave us feeling overwhelmed. These feelings can build up over time, creating emotional blockages that affect our overall health and well-being. When energy flow is restored, it can bring us emotional clarity, greater self-awareness, and an overall sense of calm, peace and harmony within oneself.
Exploring Reiki can provide valuable insights and support on your healing path.
Reiki can also be done from a distance if an in-person session does not work for either client or practitioner.
